If you're reading this article I hope you are just checking this information for curiosity, but in case you got pull over by the police while renting a scooter or an ATV here you'll find recommendations on what to do. First of all Keep calm, although the mexican police have very bad reputation, they. shouldn't stop you unless you're driving under the influence of alcohol, you're driving on the wrong way or you're attempting against your safety or other drivers, if that ever happens. or in case you got pull over by a police check point, make sure to read this following advices:

1) Remember to always have your drivers license with you, depending on the ATV or scooter you're driving it could either have a 30 day permit or a plate, make sure at the moment of your rental to check that the dates of the permit are valid or in case it has a plate make sure that the rental provides you either with a picture of the circulation permit or with the fisical one. The police will just make sure that your drivers license and the permit are in valid conditions and if you're not doing anything ilegal they will just let you continue with your trip.

2) In case you did something ilegal or they caught you driving in the wrong way, after verify your documents depending on the officer and what you did they will give you a fine that you will have to pay at the police department of Tulum, in case they take the vehicle with a crane they will charge you for the fine, the crane cost and a rent of the number of dates they keep it in custody until the vehicle get released. 3) For every scenario we highly recommend you to contact first your. rental provider and inform them about the situation, they will know what to do. We hope this information was helpful, feel free to text us in case you have any inquires about what to do for any scenario during an ATV rental.
